I’l
l keep it brief. I’m stuck in my first rut. It’s a much better rut than my last one but I have officially found myself doing the very minimum to keep my streak alive. 2 miles…anyway I can get it done. I’ve been here before, years ago, and I know that persistence and races can help dig me out of this rut and, until then, I’ll just stick with the routine. I’m jumping into a race this weekend and we’ll see if that can jumpstart the spirit. Any other ideas to help with this phenomena?

Bribe yourself. Hand packed pint at the end of the week, that sort of thing.
Or spice things up. Only doing the minimum to stay alive? Maybe you need to challenge yourself or inject some variety. Maybe the streak has lost its inspirational and motivational flavor because 2 miles is too easy. Make it 3. Or dictate that one day a week needs to be at least 5. Or tell yourself that for the next few days those two miles need to be negative splits. Or give one of the kiddies a task to do and tell him you’re going to race him, then see if you can get your two miles in before their task is complete.
